Letter Coding Decoding - Rearrangement

Introduction : Coding is a system of signals. This is a method of transmitting information in the form of codes or signals without it being known by a third person.The person who transmits the code or signal, is called the sender and the person who receives it, is called the receiver. Transmitted codes or signals are decoded on the other side by the receiver—this is known as decoding.

Example 1 : In a certain code language, ‘GIVE’ is written as ‘VIEG’ and ‘OVER’ is written as ‘EVRO’. How will ‘DISK’ be written in that same code ?

(A) SIDK                 (B) KISD                (C) KDSI                 (D) SIKD

Answer : (D)

Solution : We need to find a definite rule to get the answer. This can be done as shown below :

Example 2 : If "DEMOCRATIC" is written as "EDMORCATCI", how "CONTINUOUS" will be written in the same code?

(A) OCTNNIOUSU                  (B) OTCNINUOUS             (C) OCNTNIUOSU                  (D) OTNCINUOSU

Answer : (C)

Solution : As there is no definite pattern between "DEMOCRATIC" and the code  "EDMORCATCI". So, use the following rule to find the code for "CONTINUOUS" :

Example 3 : In a certain code, ‘REFRIGERATOR’ is coded as ‘ROTAREGIRFER’. Which words from the following would be coded as ‘NOITINUMMA’?

(A) ANMOMIUTMI                  (B) AMNTOMUIIN                         (C) AMMUNITION                (D) NMMUNITIOA

Solution : The pattern can be seen from the given diagram. All the alphabets are reversed in the word "REFRIGERATOR" to get "ROTAREGIRFER". Applying this same principle on the word "NOITINUMMA", we get AMMUNITION. Hence the code for "AMMUNITION" is "NOITINUMMA".

Example 4 : In a certain code language, 'HUMAN’ is written as ‘MUHNA’ and ‘RESOURCES’ is written as ‘SERRUOSES’. How will ‘BIODEGRADABLES’ be written in that same code ?

(A) SELBADARGEDIO             (B) OIBGEDABLESRAD             (C) OIBGEDDARLBASE             (D) OIBDEGRADABLES

Answer : (C)

Solution : In the above question, HUMAN contains 5 letters in it, RESOURCES contains 9 letters. Pair of 3 are formed , but, if there are no 3 letters left then pair of two are formed.

In case of HUMAN,

HUM = MUH

AN = NA

In case of RESOURCES,

RES = SER

OUR = RUO

CES = SEC

Similarly, in case of BIODEGRADABLES,

BIO = OIB

DEG = GED

RAD = DAR

ABL = LBA

ES = SE

So, the answer is OIBGEDDARLBASE.

Example 5 : In a certain code language, 'GIRL’ is written as ‘IGRL’ and ‘BIOCHEMISTRY’ is written as ‘EIIOBCHMSTRY’. How will ‘SUBSTANCES’ be written in that same code ?

(A)      UAESBSTANCES      (B)   AEUSBSTNCES         (C)    UEASBSTNCS         (D)   AEUSBSTNCS

Answer : (D)

Solution : In the above question, GIRL contains 4 letters in it, BIOCHEMISTRY contains 12 letters.

Only vowels are arranged first but according to there codes , then consonants are written as it is.

In case of GIRL, on I is vowel which is written first.

In case of BIOCHEMISTRY, I, O, E, I, are the vowels which are placed according to increasing codes. Then consonants are written.

Now, in case of SUBSTANCES, U, A, E , all are vowels which are placed according to increasing codes. Then consonants are written.

So, the answer is AEUSBSTNCS.

Example 6 : In a certain code, ‘EUROPEON’ is written as ‘UEOREPNO’. How would ‘CONSERVATION’ be written in that code?
